《三天大风》让我们看到海明威轻松的写作风格，通篇都是两个男人的对话。尼克和比尔，在一起喝着兑水的威士忌闲聊。从棒球联赛聊到彼此看什么书，再聊到彼此爸爸的爱好。尼克的爸爸一辈子滴酒不沾，感觉错过了很多东西。比尔的爸爸喜欢钓鱼。开始的聊天还是轻松的，后来聊到尼克曾经爱过的女人，有些伤感。

在谈到女人时，体现了男人自私的一面。比尔说，你只管去爱，但别让她们毁了你。男人只要一结婚，铁定就毁了。你看那些结婚家伙的蠢样，就知道他们完蛋了。你要是跟一个女人结婚，就等于跟她全家结婚。

比尔的话，虽然是在开解尼克忘掉过去感情上的伤痛，鼓励他重新去爱，却不想承担家庭责任。不知道这是不是代表了一类男人的真实想法。

有人问《三天大风》有什么寓意？我认为是代表着烦恼无处不在，随时会来，也随时会随风消散，就看自己如何面对，如何选择。

选择不同，所走的路就会不同。就像尼克对比尔说：“我不知道为什么会这样。我没办法。就像现在，三天大风来了，把树上的叶子全都吹掉了。”

文章的结尾似乎印证了《三天大风》的寓意：“现在，一切都不重要了。风把他脑子里的东西刮走了。星期六晚上他还是可以进城去。有选择总是好的。”
